In cooperation with the NC State Nuclear Engineering Department, the Libraries facilitated the first-ever meeting between the assistant secretary for the federal Office of Nuclear Energy, Dr. Katy Huff, and nuclear energy leaders from around North Carolina. This meeting was held in conjunction with the fiftieth anniversary celebration of the operation of the NC State PULSTAR 1-MW nuclear reactor located in the Burlington Laboratory on North Campus.

The NC State Nuclear Engineering Department arranged for Dr. Huff’s participation in the nuclear industry meeting, where Dr. Huff engaged with representatives from BWXT, EPRI, Duke Energy, E4 Carolinas, GEH, NC State Alumni, the Libraries, the Nuclear Engineering program, and Senator Thom Tillis’s energy policy staffer. During the three-hour meeting, this group discussed topics involving the development of new nuclear power generation in North Carolina.

The NC State Nuclear Engineering program is ranked third in the U.S.

In 2020, the Libraries created the first University Advanced Nuclear Technologies and Small Modular Reactor Technologies Collection.
